GENERAL INFORMATION FOR COURTS & LEGAL
The Mission of the Adult Probation Department is to protect the public, deter new criminal activity, and attempt the rehabilitation of the offender. The department supervises and manages adult criminal offenders, aged 18 and older, for the Court of Common Pleas of Crawford County and other jurisdictions upon special request.
The Crawford County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), under professional leadership, trains and provides citizen volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who are involved in juvenile court proceedings primarily as a result of abuse and/or neglect.
The Clerk of Courts Department handles criminal records, adoption records, guardianships, estate matters, marriage records and licenses, birth and death records (only from 1893 - 1905). For more information click on the Clerk of Courts link on the left of the page.
The Administration of the Crawford County Correctional Facility and its employees are dedicated to public service, and the care, custody, and control of the inmates detained. Once inmates are classified they may be moved to another housing unit, participate in programs, and receive visits. The Court of Common Pleas is a general jurisdiction trial court handling both civil and criminal cases. There are three full time judges providing judicial services.

The District Attorney's Office is under the direction of Paula Digiacomo. The main objective of District Attorney's program is to alleviate the trauma and frequently devastating effects of crime on the lives of victims and their families. The Domestic Relations Section is an office of the Court of Common Pleas assigned with the responsibility to enforce the legal duty of parent(s) to provide financial support for their child(ren) and/or spouse. Property settlements, visitation, and custody are not functions of this office.
The Crawford County Juvenile Probation Department provides supervision, care, and rehabilitation programs for children committing delinquent acts. For more information on the services and programs they provide, visit their webpage.
The Magisterial District Judges of Crawford County process criminal and traffic cases, civil and landlord-tenant actions up to $12,000.00, summary offenses, and protection from abuse orders. The Prothonotary's Office is responsible for all civil court documents. The office also processes passports.
The Crawford County Office of Public Defender shall furnish legal counsel to any person who is charged with a qualified criminal offense, and, for lack of funds as determined by office guidelines, is unable to obtain legal counsel.
The Sheriff's Department provides safety and security to the three courthouse courtrooms, transports inmates to and from correctional facilities, serve warrants, issue licenses to carry and sell firearms, serve civil papers (complaints, summons, subpoena's, mortgage foreclosures, pfa's, ejectments, possessions), and holds real estate and personal property sheriff's sales for the courts.
